I loved recording this album. The time in the studio with Andrew at the wheel, and my friends coming and jumping on board, and then getting off at a station furtther on down the road, man, it was great.
You gotta love what your doing. I can’t claim to having been some successful performer and performing at high levels for decades, or even low levels, really, but I’ve been steady. First got smitten by the guitar when I was about 15. Some friends had started playing and got me interested and once I got the bug, I was hooked. Couldn’t stop. About the only time, I haven’t played guitar on a close to daily basis since was when I was married. Hmmm. Well, ’nuff said, as they say. I was busy. Had a family to look after, job to go to, things to do. Man, I was important!
So I get called a guitar nerd by friends and family. Fair enough, you know, that’s ok. I’ve played in lounge room bands and garage bands and short lived but burning oh-so brightly pub bands. I’ve busked professionally inasmuch as it was my main source of income, and I learnt to play mandolin by busking in an underground walkway while I practiced various simple folk melodies. Much better than sitting in my room at home. Met a few people, heard a few stories, I’d usually get enough change for a beer on the way home.
